The 2018 Sea View Ridge Pinot Noir is filled with energy and vitality. Layers of bright red cherry and black raspberry are complemented with notes of sweet oak spice and graham crackers. On the palate, its juicy and the distinct graphite and saline notes are supported by soft, supple tannins. This refined and expressive Pinot Noir captures beautifully the elegance of our Sea View Ridge Estate Vineyard.

With mild temperatures leading to a long growing season and a surprise-free harvest, the 2018 vintage can only be described as idyllic. Alternating spells of cool and warm weather during bloom led to varying berry sizes, perfect for developing complexity in Pinot Noir & Chardonnay. Morning fog, afternoon sunshine and a lack of heat spikes throughout the summer allowed for a long ripening period that developed fruit with excellent natural acidity and beautiful flavors.

Sourced entirely from our organic and biodynamically farmed Sea View Ridge Vineyard. Given the extremes of this site, including elevations of 1,400 to 1,875 feet, each small block ripens at its own pace. The soils on the ridge tops are shallow and rocky with a mix of volcanic soils in the lower blocks and broken sandstone and shale higher up, which naturally restrains yields. Planted in 1998, these older vines produce fruit with layers of complexity and wines with exceptional natural acidity. Clonal selections of 2A, Swan, Calera, and 777 formed the primary source for the final blend. The 2018 Pinot Noir SeaView Ridge is fabulous. Powerful and deep, yet also light on its feet, the 2018 marries finesse and power so beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, mint, rose petal and lavender form a gorgeous counterpoint . All the best elements of the house style come together effortlessly. The 2018 is rich, deep and also wonderfully translucent. Today it is naturally a bit tight after bottling, but nothing a few years in bottle won’t take care of. Bright saline notes punctuate the driving finish.
