2000 Perennial - Proprietal Red Wine Blend
Tasting Notes
This vintage of Perennial displays a wonderfully youthful red/purple hue and bright primary aromas of red fruits such as raspberry, tart pie cherry, and strawberry. Secondary spice notes of clove, black pepper, and subtle "toasty" oak are layered within the fruit and carryover onto the palate. The texture is smooth and supple with just enough "grip" after a few sips to indicate that short-term cellaring will be rewarded. Our Perennial, while great by itself, has the uncanny ability to complement an amazingly wide range of foods. So don't be afraid to be adventurous!
Blend
Sourced from 85% Sonoma County fruit with appellations including Sonoma Mountain, Russian River, Green Valley, Sonoma Coast, and select lots from our estate here on Camp Meeting Ridge.
- 53% Pinot Noir
- 28% Syrah
- 8% Zinfandel
- 5% Pinot Meunier
- 6% Chardonnay
Winemaking
Less available Pinot Meunier and the inclusion of Syrah has resulted in a slightly more structured version of Perennial this vintage. The goal remains, however, a wine that is always greater than the simple sum of its parts and one that is immediately enjoyable upon release. Our blend will naturally shift slightly each year depending upon what nature gives us, and what we feel makes the best wine. This keeps it fun and interesting!
- Harvest: From early September for the Pinot Noir to November 1 for the Syrah.
- Yeast/ML: Primarily native yeast and malolactic fermentations.
