1999 Sangiacomo - Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
This is our debut release from the vineyards of the Sangiacomo family and is composed from a barrel selection of four distinct vineyard blocks. Previously, and currently, the wines from these vineyards have gone into our Sonoma Coast blend. However, in 1999 there was the quality and quantity for a small amount to stand on its own. The effect of the long, cool '99 vintage is particularly well displayed in this wine. Wild and complex aromas of roasted game, forest underbrush, and subtle spice notes are balanced by a clear band of ripe cherry fruit. The palate is rich and viscous with lingering flavors and just enough grip to take notice. The acidity is fresh and lively with a very slight petillant character from an unusually extended fermentation and minimal hanuling. We believe this wine will provide its best drinking over the next 1-3 years.
